A chemical spill occurred at Angel Falls Coffee Company the evening of Wednesday, May 26th. Baristas Josiah McLat and Kathleen Hughes noticed a suspicious odor around 5:30 pm. As the odor grew stronger, the two began investigating to find its source.
“It smelled like paint thinner was being pumped in through the air conditioning vent,” commented Hughes. After climbing on the roof to inspect the air intake, McLat had reported, “Nope. Nothing up there.”
Further searching revealed a can of the multi-purpose cleaning solution OOPS! lying on its side during a moderately busy evening at the popular coffee spot. The cleaner, which was found to be the source of the odor, had been overturned, allowing its contents to spill onto a shelf near the floor.
After the spill was cleaned, the can was placed on the back stoop, as McLat was unsure of the proper disposal procedure for toxic substances.
2-3 patrons commented on the smell of the fumes, and the baristas on duty complained of extremely mild light-headedness. The spill was located sometime between 6:30 and 7pm, and the noxious fumes had subsided by 11:30 that same evening.
The event is still under investigation due to evidence that the can had previously been defaced. An unknown suspect drew the letter P on the can in front the word OOPS!, spelling the word POOPS! Authorities are unsure if the incidents are related. No suspects have been named at this time.
